What We Do
Ann Arundel Chapter is proud to celebrate Americanism by engaging in a number of activities that support the national objectives of Historic Preservation, Patriotism, and Education. We enthusiastically support our Armed Services Veterans with two ongoing projects. Members gather together a couple of times annually to make beautiful fleece lap robes and scarves, and in the fall members excitedly fill Christmas stockings with much needed personal items. The resulting product of both projects is distributed to Veteran patients within the Veterans Affairs Maryland Health Care System.
Another project that we participate in annually is the Naturalization
Ceremony held at the Federal Courthouse in Greenbelt, MD.
New citizens are welcomed, the Pledge of Allegiance led, American flags
are presented and cards printed with the Pledge of Allegiance are distributed.
The beautiful ceremony is followed by a punch and cookie reception.
The chapter participates in a number of memorial ceremonies.
Fallen French soldiers who died en route while marching to Yorktown are
honored in the annual Wreath-Laying Ceremony (pictured right) at the National Monument for
French Soldiers & Sailors located on the grounds of St. John’s College in
Annapolis.
Another fall ceremony is the Massing of the Colors (pictured left), a patriotic
ceremony held to rededicate our faith in the Colors of the United States
and to present our support to those Colors and of the service men and women
those Colors represent. It combines the Colors and Color Guards of Active
and Reserve military units, veterans’ organizations, and civic and patriotic
organizations.
