2011-2012 Calendar
We host activities in the mornings and evenings to suit our members schedules. Unless otherwise indicated, all meetings are held at our chapter house in Crownsville, MD. We also have special field trips. Our historic building, the Rising Sun Inn, is typically open for tours to the public on the 2nd Sunday of every month from 1–4 p.m.
- Thursday, Sept. 8, 6:30 p.m.
Dr. Lisa Anderson, a dermatologist with Dermatology & Advanced Skin Care of Ellicott City, will give a presentation on normal and abnormal skin lesions and will also discuss minimally-invasive cosmetic procedures (Botox, fillers, peels, etc.). - Monday, Sept. 19 10:30 a.m.
Chris Harle and Sandy Anderson will be speaking about the committees that they attended during Continental Congress: American Indian Committee, Historical Preservation, and Chapter Achievement. - Thursday, Oct. 13, 6:30 p.m.
Mr. H. Thomas McGrath, Superintendent for the Historic Preservation Training Center located in Frederick, will give a presentation on the center’s programs to safely preserve and maintain national parks and partner facilities. - Monday, Oct. 17, 10:30 a.m.
Pat Maher, chapter Lineage Research Committee Chairperson, will give a presentation on how to determine the service of an ancestor who provided service during the American Revolution. Ms. Maher will speak to about the different types of service that are accepted by DAR - patriotic, civilian, and military. - Thursday, Nov. 10, 6:30 p.m.
(no meeting in lieu of Centennial Anniversary preparation and MD State Society hostess responsibilities) - Thursday, Dec. 8, 6:30 p.m.
Tom Robertson, CDR United States Navy, will speak on the hybrid style of warfare that is emerging today (a combination of conventional war, irregular war, terrorist acts and criminal activities – often at the same time) and America’s ability to succeed in this type of warfare based upon our nation’s perceived preference for conventional combat. He will add personal insight from his deployments to both Iraq and Afghanistan. - Thursday, Jan. 12, 6:30 p.m.
Tim Disher, CDR USN, Ret., Director of the International Programs Office at USNA, will discuss the program and its mission "to enhance the internationalism of midshipmen education by seeking and facilitating opportunities that contribute to building knowledge and proficiency regarding strategically important geographic regions and foreign languages as defined by Navy leadership." - Monday, Jan. 16, 10:30 a.m.
Mr. John LaTrobe will give a presentation on the history of Baltimore City. - Saturday, Feb. 11, 10:00 a.m.
Chapter members will gather to make fleece lap robes for Veterans. - Saturday, Feb. 18, 10:30 a.m.
Lunch with Miss Manners. Each year the chapter sponsors an education program for C.A.R. members to teach them what to expect in a receiving line, what to say to others in a receiving line, how to provide greetings at a meeting, how to eat politely, and other tips on meeting protocol. - Thursday, Mar. 8, 6:30 p.m.
Katy Wirin, a Correspondent Docent in training at the National Society, Daughters of the American Revolution, will give a presentation on some of the quilts from the NSDAR museum collection. She will give an overview of the masterpiece quilts in the museum's collection and the women who made them. - Monday, Mar. 19, 10:30 a.m.
Bill Floyd, former Adjunct Professor at AACC will give a presentation on " the Civil War in Maryland." - Saturday, April 21, 10:00 a.m.
Chapter members will tour the National Museum of Dentistry in Baltimore. - Thursday, May 10, 6:30 p.m.
Annual planning meeting for evening group (hostess TBA) - Monday, May 21, 10:30 a.m.
Ellan Thorson will give a presentation on the charged social atmosphere leading up to the Salem witch trials. Ms. Thorson will include information concerning her ancestors, the Towne sisters. - Thursday, June 14, 6:30 p.m.
A representative from the Wounded Warrior Project will give a presentation on the organization’s mission of helping returning wounded service members transition back to civilian life.
