History of Our Chapter
The Soldiers Delight-Thomas Johnson Chapter is the result of the
merger of two chapters, the Soldiers Delight and the Thomas Johnson chapters in 2001.
The organizing regents were Mrs. Henry W. Rodgers, Thomas Johnson
Chapter, organized on December 15, 1905: and Mrs. Charles W. Walter, Soldiers Delight
Chapter, organized on February 26, 1966.
The names of the chapters were derived from Thomas Johnson, a past
governor of the state of Maryland, and Soldiers Delight which was an historical park
located in Marriottsville, Maryland which was used during the Revolutionary War by
soldiers for rest and relaxation. The park is still in existence.
The chapter has four Lifetime Honorary Regents, Mrs. Raymond F.
Jaeger, Mrs. R. Earle Johnston, II, Mrs. Ferdinand H. Onnen Jr., and Dr. Linda C. Mistler.
The honor has been bestowed on these members because of their dedication to the
chapter as shown by being Regent for three terms consisting of two years each.
The ages of our members span 50 years. There are numerous
mother-daughter and sisters as members in the chapter, which adds to the friendly and
supportive atmosphere of our meetings. Currently there are 55 members.
The chapter meets on the second Saturday of the months of October,
November, December, March, April, May, and June. The months of January and February
were deleted as meeting months because of the severe weather in Maryland. Our
meetings are typically at members' homes with lunch following the meeting.
